Moving Advice from a Traveling Nurse

Growing up, my two main passions were helping others and traveling. These passions made choosing my dream career easy, and I am now a traveling nurse and love it. If there is anything I have mastered outside of the field of healthcare it is making quick moves around the country! There was a huge learning curve to it, because before I began traveling for work, I lived in the same house for my entire life. To help other people who move frequently for work purposes or who are just relocating for the first time in many years, I thought I would create a blog to share my moving tips. I plan to create new posts here and there during my downtime, and I hope I can help you master your next move with ease and without a lot of stress!

Moving During A Pandemic With A Moving Company: Common FAQ

by Tom Evans

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, there were so many changes to how everyone took care of the necessary aspects of life, including having to move. If you are faced with having to move during a pandemic it is best to bring in the aid of professional full-service movers if possible. Here are a few things you may want to know about these services in the process.

Can you still hire a moving company during a pandemic?

Moving is something that people often have to do whether there is a pandemic or not and they just can't avoid it. Therefore, moving companies are considered an essential service and will likely still be open in your area. It is important to remember that it can be best to avoid bringing in people to help you pack and prepare, however, just to prevent the risks of spreading illness.

Will the moving company come to your home for an estimate?

Instead of coming to your home to give you an estimate, the full-service moving company will likely be doing an estimate over the phone. You may be asked to provide measurements of the home, asked about the number of rooms, appliances, and other large items, and you may even be asked to submit a few pictures via email. This information will give the moving company a better idea of how long the move will take and how many materials and loads will be necessary so they can provide a good estimate.

How do you know the moving truck is safe for your belongings?

Professional moving companies will take the time to sanitize the interior of the truck and themselves in between working with different customers to make sure there are no worries of cross-contamination. Instead of reusing cardboard boxes to pack your belongings, the company will also be supplying new boxes and will bring along sanitized moving blankets.

What social-distancing measures will the movers take during the move?

Naturally, the efforts each company takes during the move can vary, but all of them will follow the federal and state guidelines where social distancing is concerned. You may see fewer movers come to your home, you will likely be asked to maintain your distance during the moving efforts, and you may not have as much face-to-face interaction with the moving company. Every effort will be taken to make sure you and the movers stay safe throughout the service provided.
